Final Draft

The Art of Expression
Tattoos and body piercings have been an issue for many years; whether it is trying to get a job, or even make friends. Everyone has different opinions on why or why not people should have tattoos or body piercings. Some people think they are harmful to your body, some people think that they are not right because they are not natural, and some people think they are just a way to express who they are. No one should be judged just because they have a nose piercing or a scorpion tattoo. They are both a form of expression.
Many businesses watch out for people with tattoos or piercings, often questioning their background, personality, and ability. When people think of tattoos and piercings, they usually think of troubled teens, bikers, punk rockers, or people associated with drugs. The truth is, anyone and everyone get tattoos and piercings. The little old lady down the road might have a butterfly on her ankle, or the family doctor might have a barbed wire armband tattoo. Just because someone has a tattoo or piercing does not mean they are a bad person.
Some people do not think you should ruin your body, but what is the difference between having a tattoo that is permanent or getting plastic surgery? Many people would say plastic surgery is better just because it is less noticeable. The truth is, plastic surgery can be harmful to your body and it also can give a reason for people to judge you, just like tattoos and piercings. Today’s society would rather change their appearance to look “perfect” like today’s celebrities, rather than be themselves, and have their own look.
Tattoos and piercings are not for everyone. If someone does not think highly of tattoos or body piercings, then they should not get them, but those people should not judge others who think differently. Getting a job or making friends should not be based on appearance. Everyone is different, and it should be admired that people express who they are through appearance.
