Final Draft

The Art of Expression
Tattoos and body piercings have been an issue for many years; whether it is trying to get a job, or even make friends. Everyone has different opinions on why or why not people should have tattoos or body piercings. Some people think they are harmful to your body, some people think that they are not right because they are not natural, and some people think they are just a way to express who they are. No one should be judged just because they have a nose piercing or a scorpion tattoo. They are both a form of expression.
Many businesses watch out for people with tattoos or piercings, often questioning their background, personality, and ability. When people think of tattoos and piercings, they usually think of troubled teens, bikers, punk rockers, or people associated with drugs. The truth is, anyone and everyone get tattoos and piercings. The little old lady down the road might have a butterfly on her ankle, or the family doctor might have a barbed wire armband tattoo. Just because someone has a tattoo or piercing does not mean they are a bad person.
Some people do not think you should ruin your body, but what is the difference between having a tattoo that is permanent or getting plastic surgery? Many people would say plastic surgery is better just because it is less noticeable. The truth is, plastic surgery can be harmful to your body and it also can give a reason for people to judge you, just like tattoos and piercings. Today’s society would rather change their appearance to look “perfect” like today’s celebrities, rather than be themselves, and have their own look.
Tattoos and piercings are not for everyone. If someone does not think highly of tattoos or body piercings, then they should not get them, but those people should not judge others who think differently. Getting a job or making friends should not be based on appearance. Everyone is different, and it should be admired that people express who they are through appearance.

Cause and Effect

Eating disorders are big problem in today's society. The magazines and T.V. shows have a huge impact on how people think they should look. Everyone has the same view of a what a "perfect body" should look like, which is skinny, tan, strong, and white teeth. The truth is, there is no "perfect body"; everyone is different.

This disease of people having to look like celebrities has infected millions of people. It has caused them develope eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. Instead of making a person look thinner and more beautiful, these disorders can make cause a person to become very ill. The effect of bulimia can cause rotting of the teeth from vomit. These disorders can also cause death. None of these results are worth throwing who you are away. If someone isn't happy with what they look like, they should exercise more frequently or maybe even go on a diet. They shouldn't hurt their bodies or ruin their health.

No one is perfect and no matter how much a person tries, they will never be perfect. The media has a major impact on how people view things, but eating disorders should never be the answer to a problem dealing with how one looks.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is not just basic thinking or questions you ask yourself. When you are critically thinking, you are bringing many factors into the situation that you wouldn't usually consider. You evaluate information to come to some sort of conclusion.

Where you want to live, for example is something that you would have to think about in advance. You would probably have to do some critical thinking about where you were going to live instead of just picking a random place. You would have several factors to consider such as, how much money you were willing to spend, how big of house you would want, how many people are going to be living in the house, what kind of atmosphere do you want your family to be around, what kind of weather to you enjoy, ect. So instead of just deciding to live somewhere because that's where you want to work or go to school at, you should always look deeper into the situation.

People should always look outside the box and think of situations they would have to face.
Critical thinking is something evertyone should do when making an important decision in life.

On Thinking

"According to Kant, thinking is, 'talking with oneself...hence also inwardly listening.'"

I agree with this quote because whenever I am alone or bored, I find myself thinking about things that I usually wouldn't say aloud. I believe thinking is a form of talking to yourself. You ask yourself questions, and give yourself answers.

I think when you're with people and your mind is wondering, you are thinking about things you wouldn't usually say aloud, and when you're by yourself you are usually talking to yourself about anything. If you were with a group of friends and you didn't like one of your friends outfits, you probably wouldn't say it to everyone; you would say it to your self, or think it. If you were alone, and you were thinking about what you were going to do the next day, you might have a conversation with yourself, asking yourself questions like, 'Who am I going to hang out with?' or 'Where are we going to go?' , and then answering yourself.

So i strongly agree with this quote because I have personally experienced "talking with oneself".
