Excellence paper

Excellence is the prior tool to achievement. Without excellence there is no balance, there is no better for worse. The scale gives one the grade, while the heart gives the excellence. Cheating on homework and tests gives one a good grade but not a good heart, settling for little gives one a life but not the dream, and facing the lies but not the truth can make one incomplete. Is it how one feels about themselves or what other people trust them as? If there is something missing it is not excellence. To be truthful, there is excellence. In my views excellence is to do of ones highest ability, and then there is perfection, which to be truthful, does not exist.
There is a pressure within me that holds me back from writing this paper because I’m scared of not achieving excellence. Then I remember that excellence is not perfection; it is achieving a goal at your highest ability. If I do the best I can to write this paper and only receive a B, then I have reached excellence. People lie and cheat to try and bring themselves closer to excellence, but the truth is, it only hurts them in the end.
One can not be perfect but can face their goals, their fears, and their problems. That is where excellence comes in, your achievement of your highest ability. The dream of all people is to reach excellence. So next time you see the answers across from you, don’t cheat on that test, don’t settle for what you have, make your dream come true, and don’t live a lie, it only digs you into a deeper hole. Does one have to reach perfection? No, but I feel life is more complete with dreams and excellence.

Education Essay

What is Education?

When I was told to write an essay on education, the first thing I thought of was school. After watching the movie The Dead Poet Society, my thoughts on education were more extensive. I had never thought about my parents as my teachers or giving credit to my out of school activities, my job, my friends, or the law for the material that I had learned out of school. When I hear the word education, my mind begins to think about how I grew up.
Your parents are your first teachers. They teach you right from wrong, how to tie your shoe, how to ride a bike, how to be polite, and how to drive a car. Your parents can also teach you bad habits. In the movie The Dead Poet Society, one of the characters’ father prevented him from doing what he loved, and made him go to school to be a doctor. The father wouldn’t let his son be in any extracurricular activities, or let him learn anything on his own.
Your friends are also a huge impact on your life. They teach you important life lessons such as trust and you can learn the easy way from their mistakes and their successes. They are usually the ones that affect your decisions the most. By having well educated and polite friends, you are most likely to learn positive habits from them.
The law is also very crucial in the world of education, if you did not know the law you could get into a lot of trouble, it educates you to stay out of trouble and be safe. If you disobey the law, you will soon learn your lesson to never do it again. For example, if someone drove under the influence, and accidentally hit a pedestrian and killed them, you would hope that people would learn from that to never drink and drive, or be more aware of your surroundings when you’re driving.
I think extracurricular activities also can teach you things. When I played volleyball, I learned about teamwork and respect. When I was in cheerleading I learned about hard work and responsibility. I learnt that what I say and do can, and will, affect other people.
Learn from your mistakes, that is exactly what my dad said when I worked for him at the pallet shop. Education at work is a realistic as it gets. It is about being responsible, organized, and in control of what you are doing. That is something I never really learned in school and I am thankful for being able to educate myself.
Education is everywhere. You learn from the simplest experiences. In the article The Hidden Teacher, just by seeing a spider and a web, the narrator thinks of the world and all of its creatures. He learned that “we were creatures of many different dimensions”. Another article I read called Two Ways of Seeing the River, taught me that not everyone is the same, they see things different, and even though you are sitting in the same classroom with someone, you might learn something faster or see something totally different that how you do.
Now what is education to you? Something you learn at school, or something that is everywhere in your life? Start giving credit to your parents and friends, because they play a major role in who you are. Who you became is because of education.

Personal Statement

My interest in art started when I was as young as four years old. It has always been a passion of mine. I've always enjoyed being creative and designing art projects for my friends and family. As I became older and got into high school, I had the opportunity to take art classes. I took Drawing 1 and 2, Design, Sculpture, Web Design, Graphic Art, Painting, and Photography. I plan to attend South Dakota State University to proceed with my studies in visual art. I hope to get a major in Graphic Design or maybe even education so I can one day become an art teacher.

In the process of taking Graphic Art at my school, I realized then, that I want to be a graphic design artist. I recently designed a logo for The Battle of the Bands, and I am currently designing posters and banners for “Buckle Up Week” at my high school. I used to volunteer at the local art center here in Marshall, MN. I have also been featured in several art shows around town.

I am creative, responsible, independent, open-minded, and have great artistic abilities. I would greatly appreciate if you would give me the opportunity to work for your company so I can someday be a full-time graphic design artist.

Dear Mrs. Buesing:

I am enclosing my resume in response to your advertisement "Help Wanted", April 7, for a full time graphic artist. I am currently taking the photography and painting classes that are provided at my high school. In the past I have had Drawing I and II, Design, Sculpture, Web Design, and Graphic Art. I have the creativity and artistic skills to be able to design anything assigned to me. I am an independent person who has what it takes to come up with one-of-a-kind designs. I am very open minded and am willing to be flexible. I am planning on going to college for a major in visual arts. My art experiences in school have prepared me for the graphic art world.

I hope to see you for an interview sometime soon.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Buchholz

Page 96 Critical Thinking Questions

1. The difference in form and in content between the model resume and the model cover letter is that the model cover letter is just a breif summary of the model resume. The resume describes the person's background in detail, while the cover letter explains how the resume matches the needs of the place you are applying for.

2.The resume is divided into seven parts, writer's name and contact information, statement of objective, education, details about performance and programs outside of high school, activities and skills, work experience and volunteer roles, and references. The cover letter is devided into five parts, the heading including the date, inside address, salutation, body, and closing with signiture and typed name.

3. I think Thomas's stated objective on his resume is very clear and to the point. I think the objective part on a resume serves as what your goal is or what your applying for.

4. If i was the director of the day camp, I would invite Thomas in for an interview to discuss his qualifications for the job becuase in his resume and cover letter he mentions that he is a good leader, and works well with children. He also has a good education experience and has a lot of experience with the kind of things he will be dealing with at the camp, such as swimming and CPR.
